Peter the Great, emperor of Russia in the late 17th century, was certainly not someone to cross. On discovering his wife, Catherine, had started a relationship with a Willem Mons, he had him executed and placed the removed head in a jar in his wife’s room, as a morbid reminder to her. Ironically, poor old Willem was the brother of Peter the Great's mistress.
