The efforts to create a lightbulb started early in the 19th century, but they all failed at the same hurdle: the filament would break after a few days use. This made the commercial use of bulbs unfeasible until tungsten was introduced as the filament material. Humanity was liberated from the dependence of just daylight hours to get things done!
